AI search visibility for local businesses

This guide is for local shop owners who have seen AI-written answers at the top of Google and wonder whether their business shows up in them. It explains where those answers get their facts and what you can put in order.

Short answer

AI answers such as Google AI Overviews are written from pages and listings Google has already indexed. Google says there are no special requirements or extra markup needed to appear, and it advises keeping your Business Profile information up to date. For a local shop, that means an accurate Google listing, a website that states your hours, location and services in plain text, and matching details on other sites. No one can promise what an AI answer will say.

What these answers are

When someone searches "quiet café to work from near the station" or "which nail salon nearby does gel extensions", Google may show an AI Overview: a short written answer with links to the pages it drew on. It does not appear for every search. Google shows one when it decides the answer adds something to the normal results.

Other AI assistants that search the web work in a broadly similar way. They look up pages and listings, then sum up what they found.

Where the facts come from

Google's documentation says a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet in Search to be used as a supporting link, and that the system may run several related searches to find those pages. For a question about a local shop, the likely sources are the ones below.

What you can put in order

None of this is new work invented for AI. It is the same groundwork that helps on Google Maps, done carefully.

  1. Search your own questionsWrite down five or six questions a customer might ask, such as "best brunch in [your area]" or "barber open late near [your street]". Search them on your phone and note whether an AI Overview appears, what it says and which pages it links to.
  2. Fix the Google listingCorrect anything wrong or missing: hours, category, attributes, menu, services. Google specifically advises keeping Business Profile information current for its AI features.
  3. Put facts on your website as textA menu that only exists as a photo or a scanned PDF is harder to read than a plain list. State your address, hours, services and prices on the page itself.
  4. Make the details match elsewhereIf Yelp says you close at 9 and Google says 10, an answer may repeat either one. Keep the name, address, phone number and hours the same everywhere.
  5. Answer what people keep askingIf customers often ask whether you take walk-ins or have parking, say so on your site and in your profile attributes.

What no one can control

There is no setting that puts a business into an AI answer. Google says no special structured data or AI text file is needed, and structured data only helps if it matches what the page visibly says.

Answers also change from one search to the next, even for the same question. Be wary of anyone who promises a fixed spot.

FAQ

Do I need special code or an AI text file to appear in AI Overviews?

Google says no. There is no special structured data or AI text file needed. A page has to be indexed and eligible to show a snippet in Search, which is the same requirement as for normal results.

Is this different from local SEO?

Mostly it is the same work. The accurate listing, clear website and matching details that help on Google Maps are what AI answers draw on. The difference is that an answer may name only a few businesses, and its wording changes.

Which AI answers does KAEWOO check?

Google AI Overviews. KAEWOO does not report on AI assistants it does not measure.

Can KAEWOO make an AI answer recommend my shop?

No one can promise that. KAEWOO puts your information in order and, on the higher plan, tracks the questions you agreed on over two to three months to see whether your name appears.
